Captain Bob's Sailing Booze Cruise

Partygoers and groups of friends can enjoy a fun activity and at the same time discover the most beautiful sites of Phi Phi Islands – Maya Bay, Monkey Beach, Loh Samah, Wang Long Cove, and Pi-Leh Bay – with this rather unhealthy yet exhilarating Captain Bob's Sailing Booze Cruise. Departing at 13:00 from Tonsai Bay, the cruise visits all the places mentioned above and features snorkelling, fishing, kayaking, cliff jumping, and monkey feeding.

Lunch, fruits and snacks are included as well as unlimited beer (hence the cruise’s name). The climax of Captain Bob's Sailing Booze Cruise – at least for those still able to see it – is the sunset view from Wang Long Cove, on the west coast of Koh Phi Phi Don.

Cliff Jumping

This new ‘sport’ is taking off in a big way on Phi Phi due to the abundance of fantastic jumping venues. Not without its risks, Cliff Jumping should be approached with an organised tour and participants should try lower jumps, starting from three metres gradually working to a 20-metre leap into the briny. It should be noted that combination tours are available that include snorkeling and cliff jumps.

Deaf Gecko Climbing

It’s not visible to the naked eye but there are around 30 climbing routes on Tonsai Tower (western end of Tonsai Bay). No one knows this better than the people at Deaf Gecko. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable and caring rock climbing school/business then check this place out. Deaf Gecko also does night climbing at full moon. Gear rental, guides, information and courses.

Doctor Fish

Some people find small fish nibbling away at the dead skin on their feet exhilarating; other people find it bizarre. Which are you? Punters place their feet in a tank and hundreds of small fish suck, nibble and gently remove the dead skin leaving your tootsies nice and smooth. It should be noted that fish used have no teeth otherwise this would be a rather painful pastime.

  • Opening Hours: 10:00 – 22:00
  • Location: Tonsai Main Street

First off, it has to be said that no, you won’t take your catch home to cook as fishing around Phi Phi operates on a ‘catch-and-release’ policy. That said, it’s still a lot of fun to pitch your wit, and strength against a black marlin, giant travelly or a sailfish and there’s no lack of them in the Andaman. Wahoo, too, are also common from June to October. You can charter a boat with friends or hire a longtail. Still, the biggest fish are quite a way out so if you’re serious about this sport get a sport fishing boat.

  • Remarks: Sak Fishing half-day trips - Morning 09:00 – 13:00, Afternoon 13:00 – 18:30

Keirita's Yoga

Yoga teacher Keirita's classes are held in the Mama Beach residence with beautiful views over Ton Sai Bay and in the state-of-the-art fitness centre located in the Banyan Villa Hotel. The classes are intimate – never more than ten people – and Keira is a fully qualified teacher. Interestingly enough, Keira compares the deep breathing exercises yoga employs with scuba diving. Now there’s a marriage made in heaven.

This is the most up-to-date, state-of-the-art fitness centre in Phi Phi and some would say one of the best in southern Thailand. With spanking-new fitness machines, parquet floors and a sharp air conditioning system the stage is set for a serious work out here.

There’s even a mini-Muay Thai kickboxing ring situated in amongst the rich choice of bench presses, running machines and weights. Large-screen TVs line the walls and driving, muscular music pumps out of the sound system. Read More...

P.P. Marijuana Massage

Regular visitors to Phi Phi will remember that Marijuana was once an accessory store, selling trinkets, necklaces, cosmetic jewelry and the like. No longer: Nowadays Marijuana is a massage parlour run by a bevy of Issan (northeastern) ladies who are rather fun, very giggly and talented at what they do.

  • Opening Hours: 10:00 – 22:00
  • Location: Tonsai Main Street diagonally opposite Pee Pee Bakery

Shark Watching Tours

Amongst all the great snorkelling tours available from Koh Phi Phi Don, the Shark watching tours have gained popularity for obvious reasons; since the release in 1975 of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, sharks have stimulated human imagination – not necessarily in the right way – and aroused curiosity. The waters around Phi Phi Islands host a good number of inoffensive black-tip and leopard sharks.

Phi Phi’s shark watching tours usually start very early – about 06:00 – and last a half-day. The tours are done in small groups with full snorkelling equipment provided and a professional guide; the most renowned site visited for shark watching is the small ‘shark point’ located 800m off Long Beach (there is another Shark Point off Phi Phi Don’s west coast, but it can only be visited by scuba divers due to its depth). Exciting and very educational, a shark watching tour will leave you with unforgettable memories. One of the most experienced companies in this kind of tour is The Adventure Club (see their contact info below).

Tonsai Tower Rock climbing

Krabi Province is the Mecca of rock climbing in southern Thailand due to the tall limestone cliffs that are real natural landmarks of the province. Krabi offers world-class sites such as Tonsai Beach and Diamond Cave in Railay, and all along its coast. Phi Phi Don Island may be lying 42km off Krabi coast, but it has the same topography: Tonsai Tower, located at the western end of Tonsai Bay, is the rock climbers’ paradise in Phi Phi; this 200m tall limestone tower hosts 48 different bolted routes featuring all levels of difficulty from beginner to experienced climber.

Professional and serious companies such as Spider Monkey, Ibex Rock Climbing, and Deaf Gecko Rock Climbing, propose courses and half or full day tours; their climbing instructors are trained to the highest safety standards.

Thai Cooking Classes

Thai food is gaining popularity around the world but getting hold of the ingredients to cook it for yourself is not an easy task. This is the essence of Pum Cooking School in Central Ton Sai – to teach you how to use herbs and spices correctly and how to store them as well as of course to cook Thai food. There are three sessions daily – at 11:00, 16:00, and at 18:00 and you can choose from 90-minute, 180-minute and four-hour classes and longer, the recipes studied largely depend on your choice. Written about in the Guardian and mentioned on BBC, Pum’s is professional, witty and lots of fun as well as being educational.
