Mosquito Island (Koh Yung in Thai) is the northeasternmost island in the Phi Phi group. Lying some 2.5km off Koh Phi Phi Don’s northern tip, it has a bent nail-like shape (when viewed from above) and has an approximate length of 1,000m and a width of just 150m. As with five of the six islands that form the Phi Phi archipelago, it is uninhabited. The eastern side of Mosquito Island hosts two beaches which are rarely visited. This is mostly because the island owes its name to the legion of mosquitos that show up around sunset, making it rather uncomfortable for those wanting a romantic candle-lit dinner on the beach.

The immediate surroundings of Mosquito Island are famous among the underwater sports community. The waters near the southeastern tip of the island host splendid soft coral reefs as well as an impressive abundance of marine life, making it a stunning snorkelling spot. Some mooring buoys have been installed, allowing long-tail boats to tie up without damaging the reefs. A three-headed pinnacle lies at close distance from the northeastern tip of Mosquito Island and offers a superb diving spot in relatively shallow waters (15m depth). Schools of fish and black tip reef sharks are the stars of the underwater show around this pinnacle.
