Where to Go at Night in Loh Dalum - Phi Phi Island

When in Rome, do as the Romans and when in Loh Dalum chill, chill, chill.

Fire dancing brings people out to Loh Dalum’s bars like moths to a flame and you’d be forgiven to think that some people had forgotten to go back to their bungalow to shower as most visitors, having spent the day horizontal under the sun, do exactly the same under the stars.

Loh Dalum is a late-night venue and venturing out too early to party hard is something of a no-no. Use anti-mosquito spray.

Apache Beach Bar

This Apache Bar and the one in Tonsai couldn’t be more different. This bar consists of a simple setup with sports on its TV. Outside on the sand, white plastic chairs surround a ‘stage’ of wooden sheets on which fire dancers cavort and singe their eyebrows from 20:30 onwards.

Beach Bar

This is where things get a little complicated: The Beach Bar is under a big ton sai (banyan) tree. But it’s in Loh Dalum, not in Tonsai. So if someone phones you to say that they’ll meet you at the tonsai you’d best make it clear which one. Beach Bar is Coldplay territory and brighter lit than its neighbours. You can get pretty good food here, too. Ornate lamps hanging from overhead branches add a romantic touch to the fairly busy place.

Ibiza Bar

Ibiza is a happening bar. Fire dancers twiddle and twist away, ambient music swirls into the night air and punters sprawl on cushions. You can score some food at Ibiza but it’s pretty basic stuff. Best going to one of the neighbouring restaurants and coming here later on in the evening for a good long dance in the sand.

Remarks: Unfortunately, as successful as this bar has been, it has also picked up a reputation as being dangerous so, the later it gets, the more caution should be exercised.

Slinky Bar

One of Loh Dalum’s biggest setups, Slinky Bar even has an entrance! With a (provisional) stage and elaborate lighting, you’ll find a guitarist luring people in early evening and special drinks deals as the evening progresses. Several seating options make the place a lot more adaptable than its neighbours and there’s more of a bar-like atmosphere at Slinky.

Sunflower

Occasional live music, a permanent chilled feel to it, all in a nautical theme, Sunflower goes on and on, sometimes till past dawn. As it is right at the end of the beach the bar has an exclusive, almost private vibe to it. Sunflower is also a premium sunset-watching location.

The Stones Bar

Candles in the sand, Thai cushions to sprawl out on, a chilled beer in hand and Trip Hop on the sound system… this is the scene at The Stones Bar. A neon-lit pool table lurks near the bar for the hyper energetic and laser beams shoot out over the bay. Stones favours the chunky heavy wooden furniture that is popular along this beach, along with bamboo tables and chairs. Light years away from the sleaze of Pattaya and Patong, the chilled vibe is something to savour.
