With one of the most rock-solid reputations on Phi Phi, it’s really no surprise to find Anna’s busy a lot of the time. Serving no-nonsense Thai and international food, Anna’s is located next door to Moskito Diving in Ton Sai Village, about equidistant from Tonsai and Loh Dalum beaches. No one could accuse Anna’s of being pretentious and therein lies its charm.
The décor consists of dark-stained wood set against white walls with a large-screen LCD TV, several art pieces, photos and textiles on the walls with a small al fresco section on the street. This isn’t a ‘pack-‘em-in’ place; rather, there’s a steady flow of diners throughout the day. Staff members are courteous and efficient, the background music is light pop and not invasive, while the place stays cool due to wall fans evenly distributed throughout the medium-sized eatery.
The food leans towards healthy options and a standout dish to try is the ratatouille. It may not be the biggest portion but it’s certainly very tasty and possibly unique to Phi Phi. A carrot smoothie is a great companion to this dish for those who like to keep things light.
A fresh and steaming phad thai arrives within minutes of being ordered and if you like your meals hearty then you can always opt for the Swiss rosti breakfast. For drinks, the list ranges from herbal tea to smoothies to cocktails to beers and an acceptable house red for 110 baht.
Popular with divers, Anna’s is the place to meet locals and expats on a regular basis and if you’re looking to touch base or get inside local information in homely atmosphere this is where to head for.
