The Cliff Bar & Restaurant in Phi Phi Island
Tonsai West Restaurants & Dining
It’s a 750-metre stroll from Tonsai Pier to Mama Beach Residence at the western end of Tonsai Bay but it’s most definitely worth it as here is where you’ll find The Cliff Bar & Restaurant. In an idyllic beach setting and sheltered by the towering and prolific limestone cliffs that mark the edge of the bay, sunset dining here is nothing short of magnificent.
But just about any time of day is memorable here and what with the setting, an attractive design, good cocktails and super-friendly service, everything adds up to a place that pretty much sums up tropical beach dining and drinking.
The restaurant in the actual hotel is a compact affair with clean lines, 10 tables and swirling chill-out music but we choose to sit at the bar. In fact there are dining tables on the beach and if they got any closer to the tide they’d float away. The atmosphere here is best described in three words: Chill, chill, and chill.
The combination of sunset, ambient music and a cool cocktail at a beach bar is a heady one and The Cliff enjoys making the most of it. The three-language menu covers international, Thai and French cuisine while Benz, the friendly manager/barman mixes up professional cocktails in the cone-shaped bamboo-and-thatch bar.
In short, The Cliff still has what many other bars on Phi Phi have lost: a true sense of peace and tranquility and it’s all done in style.
