Top 5 Shopping in Phi Phi Island

Best Places to Shop in Koh Phi Phi

Phi Phi Islands’ best shopping opportunities are limited when compared with Phuket or even Krabi: the seclusion and small size of the main and only inhabited island of the group – Koh Phi Phi Don – does not leave enough space for chic and fashionable shopping; no, most of the interesting goods that could be found here are the usual, basic, holiday items.

Despite this, a few stores stand out from the lot, offering original articles and souvenirs for sale. While on holiday it is always fun to crawl through bazaar-like stores trying to find unusual gifts to bring back home and all the stores presented below fit just that purpose.

Phi Phi Market
Phi Phi Market

A visit to Phi Phi Market is the occasion to get a glimpse of the islanders’ genuine daily-life. Located in the central part of Tonsai Village, the market is held every day and features a great choice of local and exotic products – fruits, vegetables, seafood – that you could find later in your plate at most of Phi Phi restaurants.

Apart from seafood and coconut, no food is produced in Phi Phi; everything is imported from Phuket and Krabi. Besides fresh products (and in the same vein as any market in Thailand), the main interest of Phi Phi Market is the ready-made snacks available here at rock-bottom prices: steamed or fried skewers, sautéed meat, fish, noodle, and vegetable, all favourites of Thai street food can be found and sampled at Phi Phi Market.

Namlily
Namlily

Namlily boutique may be tiny in size but it is certainly one of the most interesting and original shops in Phi Phi Island. Run by a young and charming French woman, this small boutique sells customised vintage dresses (vintage dresses transformed to new models); as a result, the articles found at Namlily are trendy and highly innovative.

Besides, the customized clothing, Namlily also features a good choice of quality handbags and accessories, including beautiful vintage silver and stone jewellery taking their inspiration from a large range of genuine ethnic cultures from American-Indian to Hippie to Indian to Gipsy.

  • Opening Hours: 09:30-22:30

Super Funky
Super Funky

Super Funky is a small boutique selling a great choice of sixties and seventies style tee shirts and accessories located opposite Bora Bora Restaurant in Tonsai East on the path leading to Long Beach. Small yet well-stocked, Super Funky is painted bright orange and other funky colours making it a cool place to shop and an easy shop to find.

Amongst the long list of accessories available here, the big trend in the recent years is funny hats designed in a style blending Borsalino and Panama, fancy sunglasses, pop art boxers, colourful sarongs, and more.

Mr Rum Boutique
Mr Rum Boutique

Mr Rum Boutique has such an unpretentious façade that you could pass in front of it without noticing it. Located on Tonsai Village Main Street along Tonsai beach, this store seems at first sight very small and narrow, as its first room, flanked by colourful sarongs and textiles, must not exceed 18sqm. It is only if your curiosity takes you to the back of the room that you will discover a small staircase that leads to a larger showcase room in which most of the products are stocked.

Fisherman pants, shirts, sarongs, beach gear, skirts and dresses are the fashion products for sale at Mr Rum Boutique; all of them are colourful and designed with Asian (mostly Indian and Indonesian) motifs. All sizes (even for children) are available, and prices are very reasonable.

Tonsai East Shopping Alleyway
Tonsai East Shopping Alleyway

Tonsai East Shopping Alleyway is located on the main path right before to reach Phi Phi Andaman Legacy Resort; another landmark of the lane is the beautiful Phi Phi Mosque (the Muslim community has been settled all along the Andaman Sea coast of Thailand at least since the 16th century). Tonsai East Shopping Alleyway hosts a dozen stalls selling an eclectic choice of tee shirts, souvenirs, and other accessories.

This type of shopping places are not really permanently hosting the same stalls so it is pretty difficult to make a precise description of all the items available here; a few of them remain the usual suspects of these bazaar-like plazas: beach wear, sunglasses, funny tee shirts, silly hats and bandanas can for sure be found here.

  • Opening Hours: 10:00 – late
  • Location: Past Rimlay Resort on the left
